Start with your role

You do not need to know the service name before you contact us.

Choose the description that comes closest to your situation. These routes are designed around the people ESI commonly supports, not around internal service categories.

Fire risk assessments for holiday accommodation
Sensitive buildings

Historic & heritage building owners

Proportionate advice that recognises the practical and architectural constraints of older, listed and sensitive buildings rather than forcing a standard solution onto them.

Discuss a historic building

Ask ESI

Why your role matters

The same building can create very different questions.

Good fire safety advice is not just about identifying the building type. It also depends on what you are responsible for, what decision you need to make and what stage the building or project is at.

That is why ESI does not expect you to diagnose the service yourself before getting in touch.

Designing or changing a building You may need to understand the fire safety approach before design decisions are fixed, coordinate with a wider project team or resolve questions around refurbishment or change of use.
Owning or managing a building You are more likely to be focused on the building as it operates today, what needs attention, what is already satisfactory and how actions should be prioritised.
Buying, selling or refinancing You may need an independent view of existing fire safety information so risks, gaps and likely next steps are understood before a transaction moves forward.
Operating a specialist process Where flammable liquids, gases, vapours or combustible dusts are involved, the right starting point may be different from a conventional building fire safety enquiry.

Specialist routes

More focused support where the context matters.

Some fire safety enquiries are easier to navigate when the advice is built around your role, property type or working environment. These specialist routes bring together the most relevant information for three situations where the context can make a real difference.

Fire safety support for property professionals

PROPERTY PROFESSIONALS

Fire safety support for property professionals

For architects, surveyors, property managers and project teams who need specialist fire safety input that fits alongside the wider design, refurbishment, acquisition or property-management process.

Fire risk assessments for holiday accommodation

Holiday accommodation

Fire risk assessments for holiday accommodation

For owners and operators who need a fire risk assessment that reflects how guests use the property, how the accommodation is managed and the practical realities of the building.

car-body-repair-shops

CAR BODY REPAIR

DSEAR assessments for car body repair shops

For businesses working with spray booths, paints, solvents and related processes where dangerous substances create a more specialist risk picture that needs to be considered in the context of how the site actually operates.

Common reasons clients call

You can start with what has happened, not what the service is called.

These are typical situations that can trigger a conversation with ESI. The right service can then be worked out from the context.

01

A project or refurbishment is moving forward

You need fire safety input before design decisions, approvals or works progress too far.

02

You have taken on a building or portfolio

You need to understand the existing fire safety position, responsibilities and priorities.

03

An existing assessment or strategy needs reviewing

The document may be old, incomplete, inconsistent with the building or no longer useful for the decision in front of you.

04

A survey has raised doors or compartmentation concerns

You need independent inspection, clearer evidence or a better understanding of what should happen next.

05

Your premises use hazardous substances or processes

You are unsure whether DSEAR applies or whether the existing assessment still reflects the way the site operates.

06

You simply do not know where to start

Tell us what has prompted the enquiry. You do not need the technical terminology before you contact us.

How ESI works with you

From your situation to the right next step.

The first conversation is about understanding what you are responsible for and what you are trying to achieve. The service comes after that.

01

Tell us the context

Give us the building or project type, your role, what has happened and any timescale you are working to.

02

We identify the right route

We review what you have told us, ask anything else needed and explain which type of support is likely to be appropriate.

03

You get a clear way forward

Whether the answer is an assessment, strategy, survey, servicing requirement or consultancy input, the next step is explained in plain English.

Why ESI

Specialist advice without unnecessary complexity.

ESI is a small, specialist, consultancy led team overseen by Jamie Morgan. The aim is to understand the building properly, explain the findings clearly and keep recommendations proportionate to what is genuinely required.

That approach is particularly useful on a page like this because the people coming to ESI are not all asking the same question. A project team may need design input, a managing agent may need help prioritising existing risks, and a specialist business may need a more technical assessment of its processes.

"Start with the building, your responsibility and what has changed. We can help work out the right fire safety route from there."

NFRAR

Registered fire risk assessor.

Qualifications

Level 4 and Level 6 fire risk assessment qualifications.

IFSM

Professional membership and ongoing industry engagement.

Common questions

Not sure whether ESI is the right fit?

My organisation or building type is not listed. Can I still contact ESI?

Yes. This page is a guide to common client groups, not an exhaustive list. Tell us what kind of building or organisation you are responsible for and what has prompted the enquiry, and we can help you work out whether ESI is the right route.

Yes. ESI's fire strategy and consultancy work is designed to sit alongside the wider project rather than operate in isolation. Share the project context and the people already involved so the scope can be understood properly.

Start with the building and the issue in front of you. For example, tell us whether the enquiry relates to an existing fire risk assessment, a change to the building, fire doors, compartmentation, alarm servicing or something else. You do not need to diagnose the service before contacting us.

ESI already works across a range of building types and fire safety situations, including historic and heritage buildings and premises where dangerous substances or specialist processes need extra consideration. The right approach depends on the building and what you need to achieve.

ESI works across the South and South East of the UK. If you are unsure whether your location is covered, send us the postcode with your enquiry and we can confirm.
