SPECIALIST FIRE SAFETY CONSULTANCY

Fire safety advice built on experience, judgement and common sense.

ESI: Fire Safety is a small, specialist consultancy led by Jamie Morgan, helping businesses, property professionals and building owners understand what their building needs and what to do next.

We take the time to understand the building properly, explain the reasoning in plain English and keep recommendations proportionate to the real risk. The aim is to make fire safety clearer, not more complicated.

Why ESI exists

Good fire safety advice should make the situation clearer.

Fire safety can become complicated very quickly. Different buildings, different uses, changing legislation, design decisions, management arrangements and historic alterations can all affect what is reasonable and what is required.

ESI's role is to bring those pieces together. We look at how the building actually works, what you are trying to achieve and where the genuine fire safety issues are before recommending a way forward.

That means avoiding generic reports and unnecessary actions. It also means being clear when something does need attention, explaining why it matters and helping you prioritise the next step.

"No short cuts in safety, but no unnecessary work either."

ESI working principle

What that means in practice

A consultancy approach, not a tick-box exercise.

The same principles run through ESI's assessments, strategies, surveys and ongoing advice.

01

Understand the building

We start with the premises, how it is used, who depends on it and what has prompted the enquiry.

02

Explain the reasoning

You should understand what we have found, why it matters and what the recommendation is trying to achieve.

03

Keep it proportionate

The aim is not to create the longest possible action list. It is to identify what is genuinely needed and prioritise it sensibly.

04

Stay useful after the report

Good consultancy does not end with a PDF. We help clients understand the findings and the practical next steps.

Founder & Principal Consultant

Meet Jamie Morgan

Experience that reaches beyond one part of fire safety.

Jamie founded ESI in 2006 after building a career across electrical and life safety compliance. His experience has included small businesses, complex commercial premises, power generation, waste management, hazardous environments and ATEX-classified areas.

That broader technical background shapes the way ESI approaches fire safety today. A building is not a collection of isolated checks. Fire risk, compartmentation, doors, alarm systems, emergency lighting, management arrangements and the way people actually use the premises all interact.

Over time, ESI developed further into fire detection, alarm systems and life safety before focusing its consultancy work around fire risk assessment, fire strategy and specialist compliance advice.

NFRAR

Registered fire risk assessor.

Qualifications

Level 4 and Level 6 fire risk assessment qualifications.

IFSM

Professional membership and ongoing industry engagement.

Breadth matters

Looking at the building as a connected system.

Many enquiries do not sit neatly inside one service. A fire door issue may point to a compartmentation problem. A strategy may no longer reflect how the building is managed. A DSEAR question may depend on plant, process and electrical installations.

That wider view helps ESI identify the right problem before recommending the solution.

You do not need to diagnose the service before you contact us. Tell us what is happening and we will help you work out the right route.

Risk assessment Understanding hazards, people at risk, existing controls and the actions that genuinely need attention.
Fire strategy Connecting design intent, means of escape, compartmentation, systems and management into a coherent approach.
DSEAR Considering dangerous substances alongside plant, process equipment, electrical installations and operational reality.
Passive protection Looking at fire doors and compartmentation in the context of the wider building, not as isolated components.
Life safety systems Experience with fire detection, alarm systems, emergency lighting and the practical interfaces between systems and people.

Professional standing

Qualifications, registration and ongoing industry engagement.

Fire safety is not static. ESI maintains links with professional bodies and technical communities so the advice we give stays connected to current practice and wider industry thinking.

Plain-English communication Technical detail is important, but the people responsible for acting on it need to understand what it means.
Advice you can use Reports and recommendations are written to support real decisions, priorities and next steps.
